February 28, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw improved to 3-1 on the season following a doubleheader sweep of visiting Anderson at Walker Field. The Tigers won the opener by a 12-4 score and took the nightcap, 8-4.
DePauw collected 17 hits in the opener with Rob McPike leading the way with four followed by Jon Newman with three. Justin Weiner, Taylor Hoffman, Mike Stout and Ben Gardner each totaled a pair in the win.
The Tigers scored single runs in the second and third including a solo homer by Stout in the latter before the Ravens cut the lead in half with one in the fourth. DePauw sent home five in the bottom of the fourth with Stout and McPike combining for three RBI as each doubled.
Anderson added single runs in the fifth and sixth, but DePauw tallied three in the seventh including two from Hoffman's two-run homer. After the Ravens scored once in the eighth the Tigers followed with their final two in the bottom of the frame.
The Ravens totaled 12 hits led by Jeremy Hazen with three and Brad Schnepp and Michael Tucker with two each. Brad Gerlach improved to 2-0 after allowing just two runs and striking out seven in five innings. Kyle Dillong dropped to 0-1 with the loss for Anderson.
DePauw took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh and scored three to seal the win. Gardner led the Tigers with three hits followed by Weiner and Newman with two each. Daniel Hiatt and Hazen each had two hits for the Ravens with Hazen hitting the game's only homer.
Peterson improved to 1-1, while Anderson's Kevin Pence dropped to 0-1. Meyer collected his first save of the year.
DePauw is scheduled to face Transylvania tomorrow in a doubleheader at St. Xavier High School in Louisville.
