March 17, 2010, Franklin, Ind. — The Tigers stranded 13 runners and allowed eight unearned runs in an 11-1 loss at Franklin. DePauw dropped to 7-5, while Franklin improved to 4-3.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the second when Matt Zmich singled and moved to second on a passed ball. He then scored on a throwing error after Nick Stoia flied out to right. Ian Sanders singled home Jarrett Johnson in the third before Franklin scored seven unearned runs in the fifth.
Johnson reached on a dropped third strike to lead off the inning and later scored when Stoia's fly ball with two outs and the bases loaded was dropped. That also allowed Sanders to score. After Jordon Klinedinst reached by being hit by a pitch, Cory Wahl, Jordan Smuts and Johnson each followed with singles making it 9-0.
The Grizzlies added one each in the sixth and seventh innings. DePauw's lone run came in the eighth when Jason Cohen led off with a double, moved to second on Alex Wright's ground out and scored on Chris Forbringer's single.
DePauw loaded the bases in the first with no outs and couldn't score. The Tigers also had the bases loaded in the third and left two on in the second and sixth innings.
The Tigers totaled eight hits with Alex Jacques leading with three and Forbringer adding two. Franklin had nine hits led by Johnson's three.
Shawn Mattingly improved to 1-0 with the win, while Rob McPike dropped to 1-1.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 20, when it opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Birmingham-Southern.
