February 28, 2010, Louisville, Ky. — DePauw is 3-3 on the season following a doubleheader split with Transylvania in games played at Louisville's St. Xavier High School. The Tigers won the opener by a 10-4 score and dropped the nightcap, 6-2.
DePauw pitchers Brad Gerlach and Elliott Ross combined to strike out 19 hitters and allow no walks in the first game with Gerlach collecting six in four innings and Ross totaling 13 in five inning of relief.
The Tigers scored three in the first and two each in the second and fourth innings to take a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers countered with four in the sixth, but DePauw put the game away with three more in the eighth.
Taylor Hoffman paced the Tigers with four of DePauw's 14 hits, while Alex Jacques, Jon Newman, Sam Linette and Jason Cohen each added two. Newman and Linette drove in three apiece and Hoffman scored three. Phil Blakely and Ben Kuebbing each had two of Transylvania's six hits.
Ross improved to 1-1 with the win, while Korey Colyer dropped to 0-1.
DePauw jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game two, but the Pioneers scored four in the third and one each in the fourth and eighth for the win. The Tigers collected just three hits with Matthew Skura totaling two. Transylvania finished with nine hits as Ben Young and Peter Travisano each finished with two.
Mitch Florence improved to 1-0 with the win, while Mike Peterson dropped to 0-2.
DePauw is scheduled to open the home portion of its schedule with Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders against Illinois Wesleyan.
