Auburndale, Fla. – The DePauw baseball team picked up win number 15 on the year after sweeping Thursday's doubleheader against Me.-Farmington with a 5-3 win in game one and a 7-0 win in game two.
In game one, DePauw (15-4) came out swinging behind a RBI double from Mike Hammel in the first and a two-run home run from Zack Wade in the second. After Me.-Farmington (1-5) tied it in the top of the third, Wade took it upon himself to put the Tigers back in front with an RBI double in the fourth and a RBI single in the sixth.
Wade and Hammel combined to tally each of DePauw's four hits for the game. Wade finished 3-for-3, and Hammel finished 1-for-3.
Tom Giella started and received the no decision after pitching the first 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs. Nick Casey came in and picked up the win in 2.1 innings. Nick Horvath pitched the final 1.1 innings for the save.
In game two, DePauw got a five-inning gem from Tyler Holt who allowed just two hits and struck out nine. He improved to 2-0. Jonathan Azar pitched the final two innings, striking out four of the six batters he faced and did not allow a hit.
DePauw scored five of their seven runs in the first inning and finished with 11 hits altogether. Ryan Grippo singled up the middle to bring the first run across and was followed by a two-run double from Hammel. Later, C.J. Yoannou hit an infield single to score Hammel, and Noah Salasky doubled to score Yoannou.
The Tigers' last two runs came via a single from Sam Comer and a sacrifice fly from Jack Thompson. Ryan Grippo led the Tigers, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Reid Pittard finished 2-for-3 and Salasky finished 2-for-4 as the designated hitter.
DePauw and Me.-Farmington will wrap up their three-game series at 11 a.m. Friday.
