Thompson, Hammel and Five Others Named All-NCAC

Seven members of the DePauw baseball team were recently recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference. Seniors Jack Thompson and Mike Hammel highlighted the pack by making All-NCAC First Team.

Ryan Grippo, Tate Stewart, Reid Pittard and Collin Einertson were named All-NCAC Second Team, and Andrew Quinn was an honorable mention.

Thompson had a whale of a season as the starting center fielder, batting .379 with a team-high 13 home runs and 55 RBI. His 13 home runs has him atop the single-season home run list in DePauw history.

A first team selection last year, Thompson also holds a .707 slugging percentage, a .446 on base percentage and was 16-of-18 on stolen base opportunities.

Hammel was right behind Thompson in the home run chase. He hit a team-high .396 average, connecting on 12 home runs and producing 40 RBI. He led the team with a .754 slugging percentage and .482 on base percentage.

Hammel was also one of the team's best pitchers with a 6-1 record and a 3.92 ERA. He has pitched a team-high 59.2 innings.

Looking at the second team, Ryan Grippo holds a .342 batting average with 3 HR and 29 RBI. Tate Stewart is on the second team for the second consecutive year after batting .381 with 26 RBI.

Reid Pittard is batting .349 with 26 RBI after being named an honorable mention in 2015. Collin Einertson has a .347 average with 4 HR and 36 RBI.

Lastly, Andrew Quinn has posted a 4-3 record with a 4.75 ERA in 11 appearances to be named an honorable mention.

The Tigers ended the regular season at 31-11 and placed first in the NCAC West with a 12-5 record. They were selected as an at-large bid into the NCAA DIII Baseball Championship and will face SUNY-Cortland on Thursday in Washington, Pa.
