DePauw Opens Home Portion of Gridiron Season on Saturday
September 30, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw tries to snap a two-game losing streak when it opens the home portion of its 2011 football schedule on Saturday, October 1, against Centre College. Kickoff from Blackstock Stadium in Greencastle is set for 1 p.m.
DePauw is 1-2 on the season after last Saturday’s 24-14 loss at Rhodes. The Tigers opened with a 23-13 win at Rose-Hulman and dropped a 17-10 decision at Allegheny.
The Colonels are 3-0 on the season following last Saturday’s 45-0 win over Austin.
In a series which dates back to 1917, DePauw holds a 13-6 advantage after winning last year in Danville, Ky., by a 21-16 score. Centre won the last meeting in Greencastle by a 34-24 count in 2009. Overall, DePauw holds a 5-3 edge in games played in Greencastle, but has split the six contests at Blackstock since 1999. This marks the 14th straight year the two schools have faced each other.
The game features two of the winningest programs in Division III history as Centre ranks 14th in wins with a 553-401-37 record in 119 seasons and DePauw is 17th with a 541-466-40 mark in 124 football seasons.
