Tigers Win Opening Game in Chicago Tournament

Chicago, Ill. -- In their opening game of the UChicago Tournament, the DePauw men's basketball team defeated East-West 86-77 for their second straight win and to pull even at 2-2 on the season.

Senior Luke Lattner led all scorers with 26 points on 6-of-10 shooting and by going 12-of-14 from the free throw line. He is now averaging 25 ppg.

Jack VandeMerkt also put up double figures and posted his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. James Clarke followed with eight points and nine rebounds, and Mason Hankins added nine points on 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc.

DePauw shot 52 percent (28-of-53) compared to East-West's 36 percent (27-of-75) and also had 21 assists on their 28 shots made. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 51-33.

DePauw had the lead throughout except for when it was tied at 2-2. From that point, they went on an 8-0 run where Clarke accounted for five of those points.

East-West cut the lead to just four at halftime 42-38. DePauw brought their lead to 55-42 with 14:10 remaining and kept a near double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

DePauw will face Chicago at 3 p.m. CST on Sunday. Chicago (3-1) defeated Carroll (Wisc.) 94-83.
