Rhodes' Strong Second Half Sinks DePauw in Season Opener

Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw trailed 6-5 midway through the third period, but Rhodes scored six straight on the way to a 15-6 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 0-1, while the Lynx moved to 2-0.

The teams battled back and forth early with DePauw gaining its only lead of the game at 4-3 on Sam Alkema's goal on Matthew Dauw's assist with 2:06 left in the first half. Rhodes countered with two goals in the final 1:19 of the half including the final with just one second left to take a 5-4 halftime advantage.

Dauw's goal with 7:13 remaining in the third trimmed the Rhodes lead to 6-5, before the Lynx came right back just 11 seconds later. The hosts added a pair of scores in the final five minutes of the quarter to take a 9-5 lead into the fourth.

Rhodes outscored DePauw, 6-1, in the final stanza with Austin MacDonald collecting DePauw's only score.

Dauw led DePauw with three goals and one assist, while  MacDonald, Alkema and Steen Jorgensen added single tallies.

Ryan Fennelly and Jason Lee each scored three for Rhodes with Fennelly also assisting on three.

Eric Speer had four ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Tigers, while Alkema matched his four ground balls.

Rhodes' John Wancowicz and James Margraff each had five ground balls, while Wancowicz caused five turnovers.

Rhodes outshot DePauw 44-28 and held a 31-25 edge in ground balls. The Lynx also won 15 of the 22 faceoffs. DePauw was 0-for-7 in extra-man opportunities, while Rhodes was 1-5.
