Franklin, Ind.- The 23rd-ranked Tigers were back in action Wednesday night as they traveled to Franklin College for a matchup with the Grizzlies. DePauw outshot Franklin 14-3, but it was the Grizzlies' Antonio Gioe who notched the lone goal in the 60th minute to give Franklin a 1-0 victory.
With the win, Franklin improved to 1-1, while the Tigers dropped to 1-2.
DePauw applied the early offensive pressure firing four shots in the opening 20 minutes. Franklin keeper, Cody Chapman made three key saves at the end of the first half to keep the game scoreless entering halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers' Andy Morrison just missed scoring on a header to put DePauw in front. The Grizzlies took advantage of an odd man rush, drawing Tiger goalie Jake Pezzuto out of the net and trickling a shot just through to the back of the net. Gioe was the one who finished off the goal with Austin Fundenberger providing the assist.
Chapman made seven saves in the victory for Franklin, while Pezzuto grabbed one save in the loss.
The Tigers look to rebound Saturday, September 6, when they travel to Principia for a 2 p.m. contest.
