Greencastle, Ind. - Claire Ryan notched a career-high 20 points as DePauw moved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 69-43 win over Wittenberg. The visiting Tigers dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
DePauw came out strong, scoring the first eight points and eventually taking an 18-3 lead with 4:44 left in the opening stanza as it hit eight of its first nine field goal tries. The hosts headed to the quarter break with a 23-7 lead.
Wittenberg closed the gap to nine on a couple of occasions in the second period, but DePauw finished the half on a 6-0 run to take a 36-21 advantage into the intermission.
DePauw sealed the win early in the third as it scored the first 11 points over a 6:09 stretch to extend the lead to 47-21.
Ryan's 20 points came in 27 minutes on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Taylor Howard and Maya Howard each scored 12 points and dished out five assists in the win.
Liz Tolliver came off the bench for Wittenberg to lead the way with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Lexie Perry paced the team with four assists.
DePauw shot 46.3 percent for the game, while Wittenberg connected on just 25.0 percent. DePauw held a 46-32 edge on the boards.
DePauw travels to Wooster on Saturday, December 10, for a 1 p.m. NCAC game.
