Tigers Roll to Win over Birmingham-Southern

Sewanee, Tenn. - DePauw jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening 5:09 against Birmingham-Southern and never trailed on the way to a 20-13 victory. The Tigers moved to 3-2, while the Panthers dropped to 5-8.

After the Tigers built a quick 6-0 lead, Birmingham-Southern closed the gap to 8-4, but DePauw scored three of the final four goals of the first half for an 11-5 advantage at the intermission.

The teams exchanged goals twice to start the second half before the Tigers scored five straight to extend the lead to 18-7.

Madi Lozanoski and Emma Flynn each scored three goals, while Rachel Allen, Emilye Denny, Nicole Gibson, Kate Flynn and Taylor Summers each added two. Gibson tied the school record with six assists in the win.

Natalie Daniel paced the Panthers with nine goals, while Ashley Shepherd added two.

Lis Hawkins stopped 11 Birmingham-Southern shots with Maddie Allen recording four saves. The Panthers' Jillian Montgomery finished with six stops in goal.

Lozanowski, Erica Rapelje and Emily Scinta each had four draw controls for the Tigers with Sydney Blake totaling three ground balls. Libby Groark led the Panthers with four draw controls, while Montgomery had a team-high five ground balls.

DePauw held a narrow 35-34 edge in shots, while Birmingham-Southern led in ground balls, 26-17. The Tigers also led in draw controls, 21-14.

DePauw faces Sewanee tomorrow at 6 p.m. CDT.
