Greencastle, Ind. - In a game that started over an hour late due to lightning delays, DePauw held off a late Ohio Wesleyan surge for a 12-11 North Coast Athletic Conference win in the Tigers' home finale at Reavis Stadium.
The Tigers improved to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the NCAC to match the DePauw single-season wins record previously set in 2015 and clinched the program's first winning season. The Battling Bishops dropped to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The Tigers scored three times in a 1:44 stretch with Sydney Blake scoring the final two to give DePauw a 10-5 lead with 22:13 remaining.
DePauw still held an 11-6 lead before Ohio Wesleyan scored three straight to cut the Tigers' lead to 11-9 with 8:35 left. Blake stopped the run at 7:44 before Ohio Wesleyan closed to within one on scores by Sloane Baumgartner and Kelsey Bowling with the latter coming with just 1:06 remaining.
The Battling Bishops controlled the ensuing draw, but DePauw's Marisa Ellison forced a turnover and the Tigers were able to possess the ball for the final 30 seconds and wrap up the win.
Mickey Rice, Baumgartner and Bowling scored three apiece for Ohio Wesleyan with Kelly Coffyn finishing with 12 saves.
Ohio Wesleyan held a 35-32 edge in shots and a 26-19 advantage in ground balls. DePauw committed 24 turnovers to the Battling Bishops' 20, while the Tigers led, 15-10, in draw controls.
Allen and Blake each had three ground balls for the Tigers with Madi Lozanoski leading with six draw controls.
Cory Kinder paced Ohio Wesleyan with seven ground balls and four draw controls. Maddie Lancaster caused four turnovers.
DePauw travels to Oberlin on Saturday, April 29, for an 11 a.m. contest.
