Chicago, Ill. -- DePauw picked up a pair of doubles wins in their season opener Friday but lost five of six singles flights to fall 6-3 to No. 9 Chicago.
The No. 2 doubles team of Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder won 8-2, while the No. 3 team of Colleen Morris and Ali Bush won 8-4 to get things started on a positive note for the Tigers. At the No. 1 filght Alyssa Seneviratne and Meredith Breda fell 8-2.
In singles action, Seneviratne fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, and Breda lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. The three and four flights fell in order as well with Morris falling 6-2, 6-0 and Bush going down 6-4, 6-1.
The five and six flights were highlights as Amanda Showalter gave No. 23 ranked DePauw its lone win at No. 5 singles 6-7 (0-7), 6-3, 6-0, while Galle fell at the No. 6 flight 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
DePauw returns to action Saturday against Coe.
