Tigers Split Opening Twinbill in Florida

Auburndale, Fla. - After Union (N.Y.) rallied for a 4-3 win the first game, DePauw never trailed on the way to a 5-1 win in the nightcap to gain the split. DePauw moved to 8-6, while the Dutchmen are 1-1.

In the opener, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second as Nolan Lavender doubled home Kyle Callahan. Union gained the lead in the bottom of the third when Colin Kelly hit a two-run homer.

Jackson Williams scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to tie the game, while TJ Carney-DeBord's pinch-hit single in the top of the seventh scored Nick Nelson who led off with a triple and gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

Jack Koch led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, but the Tigers turned a double play. Kelly and Sean Cullen followed with singles before Kevin Chaimowitz tied the game with a single that plated Kelly. Andy Labeck then delivered the game-winning single that scored Cullen.

Six different Tigers collected one hit each with Kelly and Koch each finishing with three of Union's 11 and Chaimowitz adding two.

Aaron Miller dropped to 0-1 after relieving DePauw starter Grant Rademacher. Colin Nye picked up the win.

In the second game, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the second after Charlie Patrick led off with a single and moved to third on Nolan Lavender's double. Spencer Youngcourt's grounder scored Patrick and Jackson Williams singled home Lavender.

Patrick, Youngcourt and Nick Nelson each drew bases loaded walks in the fifth to make it 5-0. 

Union's lone run came in the sixth when Kelly reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Jack Myers to score.

Lavender and Williams each had two of DePauw's seven hits, while four different Dutchmen had one hit each.

Nick Casey improved to 3-1 after allowing just one run and three hits in six innings. Dominic Nardone dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

DePauw faces Elmhurst in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m.
