Wittenberg Captures Rare Win Over DePauw

Greencastle, Ind. -- For the second straight game DePauw failed to find the back of the cage, which resulted in a 3-0 loss to Wittenberg on Sunday.

This was the first time Wittenberg defeated DePauw in NCAC play since DePauw joined the conference in 2011. It was also Wittenberg's first win against DePauw since 2009.

The two teams looked poised to enter halftime scoreless, but Wittenberg's Maddie Goelz scored in the 34th minute to give her team a 1-0 advantage. She kept the ball on the ground and it rolled right past DePauw keeper Hannah Metzger.

Wittenberg then made the most of their chances in the second half, scoring on two of their four shots. They went up 2-0 in the 58th minute when Audrey Coler scored as DePauw had a player in the penalty box.

Then in the 65th minute, Goelz scored again as Wittenberg played with one of their own in the penalty box.

DePauw outshot Wittenberg 14-11 but only took two shots in the second half. Metzger recorded four saves for DePauw as her record drops to 5-2.

Allie Purvis made fives saves in the shutout for Wittenberg. The game featured four green and three yellow cards.

Wittenberg improves to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the NCAC. DePauw moves to 7-5 and 5-3.

The Tigers will regroup and return to NCAC play next weekend when they play two away games against Ohio Wesleyan and Kenyon.
