Centre's Second-Half Scores Send Tigers to Defeat

Danville, Ky. - Host Centre scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second half to break a 2-2 halftime tie on the way to a 5-3 win over DePauw. The Tigers dropped to 0-3, while the Colonels improved to 1-2.

Twice in the first half the Tigers fell behind and both times they evened the score. Centre's Sarah Biggs scored 6:10 into the contest on Savannah Elpers' assist) before Cathy Zesiger scored six minutes later to tie the contest at 1-1.

Caroline Brotzge put the hosts ahead at 20:40 before DePauw again knotted the contest on Kate Milner's score from Gretchen Bechthold's assist with 4:55 remaining in the half.

Brotzge and Elpers scored within 37 seconds of one another early in the second half to push the Colonels' lead to 4-2. Milner added a second goal at 54:51 on Jillian Kim's assist, but Biggs sealed the victory with under five minutes left.

Centre outshot DePauw, 25-10 and held a 16-8 advantage in shots on goal. Centre had 12 penalty corners to DePauw's four.

Hannah Metzger recorded 10 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Kristen Mulcahy had five for Centre.

DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 15, with an 11 a.m. contest at Kenyon.
