Sept. 28, 2019- The DePauw University field hockey team fall to the Kenyon College Ladies 3-1 in the first of many family weekend matchups on Saturday.
Keeping Kenyon at bay in the first quarter, the Tigers created congestion inside the striking circle, resulting in holding the Ladies to just three shots on goal.
In the second quarter, though the two teams were once again trading off shot attempts, Kenyon came out with newfound energy and put two quick goals in, putting the Ladies up 2-0 before the half.
Despite being down by two, the Tigers continued to fight and aggressively tried to claw its way back into the match. Unfortunately, in its desire to push the ball up the field, DePauw lost its positioning, and the Ladies came up with another goal in the middle of the third quarter.
With four minutes to go and down a player due to an earlier yellow card, the Tigers found its second wind and scored following a corner. Gretchen Bechthold fielded the corner and found Maddie DeAscentis in the striking circle. With a slight flick of the wrist, DeAscentis tipped the ball in and cut the Ladies lead to two.
Unfortunately, with time running out and the heat of the day catching up to both teams, the Tigers were unable to make up the two-goal deficit.
DePauw closes out family weekend festivities with its second game of the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Noon against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons.
