Tigers Shut Out Oberlin for First NCAC Win of the Season

Oct. 12, 2019- The DePauw University field hockey team shut out Oberlin College at home in its second NCAC matchup of the season 2-0.

The Tigers came out fast and strong in the first quarter. Within just five minutes of play, DePauw got off three shots on goal pushing up its offensive line deep into the Yeowomen's striking circle.

In the last two minutes of the quarter, Cathy Zesiger maneuvered her way through Oberlin's defensive players to find Kate Milner for the Tigers' first goal of the game.

The second quarter DePauw didn't allow any shots on its goal while recording six shots on the Yeowomen. Despite controlling the ball in the Oberlin half, the Yeowomen managed to hinder the Tigers from getting any penalty corners.

Following the half, Oberlin came out with more energy and kept DePauw to just three shots on goal. Despite being held to three shots, the Tigers found the back of the cage following a fielded penalty corner by Maddie DeAscentis, who then found Maddi Little in the circle to score.

Up 2-0 going into the fourth quarter DePauw did not let up on either end of the field. Pushing up its defensive line, the Tigers outshot Oberlin 9-1 in the fourth and 24 to 3 throughout the whole game.

The Tigers are back at Reavis Stadium to face the Allegheny Gators on Sunday, Oct. 13, with a game-time set for noon.
