Tigers Fall to Big Red 2-1

Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University, field hockey team might have fallen to Denison University 2-1, but it didn't let the torrential rain loss dampen its senior day festivities.

From the opening minute of the game, it was evident that the saturated turf created a faster surface for the ball and significantly impacted the speed of the game for the better, despite the rain.

Though the conditions did make it somewhat challenging to play in the Tigers, stamina and speed allowed them to push the ball up faster than usual and had some good looks on goal early.

Denison did strike first, however, off a penalty stroke in the third minute of the game, yet just two minutes later, the Tigers answered with a goal of its own, by Kate Milner.

DePauw would be held to just six shots on goal to the Big Red's 15, forcing the Tigers to show off its defensive abilities. Unfortunately for DePauw, Denison found a gap in the backline and took a shot in the circle to get back up by one in the third quarter.

Down 2-1, the Tigers picked up its pace, and although DePauw got one shot off in the fourth quarter had two promising penalty corners that almost put them back in the game.

With just 30 seconds left in the game, the Tigers took it deep from its striking circle up the left side of the field and attempted to get at least one more ball into the back of the cage before time expired.

Although a tough loss for the Tigers, the match did get to showcase DePauw's willingness to put everything on the line no matter how many seconds are left in the match. The Tigers' final regular-season home game is Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.
