St. Louis, Mo. -- WashU defeated the DePauw men's soccer team 3-0 Friday night in what was the first meeting between the two teams since 2015 where DePauw advanced on penalty kicks in the second round of the NCAA men's soccer championships.
This time around both teams entered having received votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.
Ryan Sproule put WashU on his shoulders with his second and third goals of the year. He gave WashU an early lead, scoring on an open net at 13:40.
The next two goals came on headers in the second half. Sproule connected after a free kick at 53:10, and Anthony Law scored at 56:17 after a well-placed corner kick.
WashU outshot DePauw 14-7 and won the corner advantage 7-3.
DePauw goalie Ben Davis recorded one save to suffer his first loss. Colin McCune and Bryant Hales combined for the WashU shutout.
DePauw (1-1-1) is off until Wednesday when they face Franklin College at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. More information on that game can be found here.
