DePauw Drops Two to Nationally-Ranked Teams on Second Day of Leadoff Classic

Tucson, Ariz. - For the second straight day, DePauw faced a pair of ranked teams at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Leadoff Classic, but the Tigers dropped an 11-10 extra-inning contest against #21 Central and fell by a 12-3 score to #20 Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Tigers dropped to 3-3 with the losses.

In the Central game, the Tigers were unable to hold two early leads, but knotted the game in the top of the seventh on a leadoff homer by Kat Panos

The teams went to extra innings with the tiebreaker rule in effect. Sidney Holler's bunt advanced Kaylyn Linder to third and Sarah Beischer's single scored Linder. After Beischer stole second, Taytum Schaney scored her with a single. Schaney later scored on Liz Getz's single.

Central tied the contest before Emily Walton's single scored Sara Tallman with the game-winning run.

Panos and Getz each had three of DePauw's 13 hits, while Beischer added a pair. Walton, Amanda Sigulas and Shaye Witte each had two of Central's nine hits.

Emma Baldwin suffered the loss and dropped to 2-1, while Annie DeVries improved to 1-1.

Against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the Tigers again fell behind in the first, but took the lead in the bottom of the opening frame on Becca St. Germain's two-run double. The Titans erupted for seven runs in the second with Abby Menting delivering the big blow with a grand slam.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh added three more in the third before St. Germain drove in Taytum Schaney after reaching on a fielder's choice in the third. The Titans added one in the fifth before the game was ended due to the eight-run rule.

Three different Tigers had one hit each, while Kaitlyn Krol and Erika Berry each had three of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's 13 hits.

Devin Pieper dropped to 0-2 with the loss, while Claire Petrus improved to 4-0.

The Tigers wrap up play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with Sunday games against MIT and Birmingham-Southern.
