Tigers Open Season with Split at Emory

Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw opened its season with seven runs in its first inning of play and finished with a doubleheader split at Emory with a 7-5 win in game one and a 9-5 loss in the second. The Tigers are now 1-1, while Emory is 1-2.

The first five DePauw batters of the first game reached on hits as the Tigers sent 11 to the plate and finished the frame with seven runs on five hits. The Eagles added two in the bottom of the first, one in the fifth and two in the sixth and the Tigers held on for the win.

Abey Bass led the Tigers with three of their eight hits, while Becca St. Germain drove in a pair. Meghan Murphy had two of Emory's six hits.

Riley Magoon picked up the win in relief of Mac Jones, while Cami Henry picked up the save after not allowing a one or hit in the game's final 1 1/3 inning. Madeline Maday took the loss for Emory.

In the nightcap, DePauw again got out to a quick lead with one in the first, but Emory evened the count in the bottom of the opening inning. After the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the second, the host Eagles scored four in the bottom of the frame and added three in the fourth for an 8-2 lead. DePauw finished with two in the sixth and one in the seventh, while Emory's final tally came in the sixth.

Kate Geary led DePauw with three of its 13 hits, while Jones, Jordyn Fera, Kaylyn Linder and Sarah Beischer each had two. Cassie Baca had three of Emory's 10 hits with Murphy adding a pair.

Henry suffered the loss, while Toko Miller took he win for the Eagles.

The teams meet in a 10 a.m. single game tomorrow.
