Tigers Blank the Warhawks in 4-0 Home Victory

Sept. 15, 2019- The DePauw University women's soccer team finished its DePauw Challenge Cup run with an emphatic 4-0 win over the UW-Whitewater Warhawks.

In a highly physical match with the Warhawks, the Tigers came out ready to own the tempo of the game. Trading shots and passes with Whitewater throughout the beginning of the first half.

Though DePauw was never awarded a corner in the first half, its aggressive attack in the center of the box led to multiple attempts at scoring. At the 33 minute mark, the Tigers finally put one in the back of the net following a gathered rebound by Shaili Kumar who skipped it over to Alex Wendt to go up 1-0.

That first goal ignited the team, and the intensity of the first half picked up speed, which carried over into the second half decisively in the Tigers favor. Within just 40 seconds of play in the second half, Abbie Morris would sprint down the right side of the field and cross the ball to Wendt once again!

Up 2-0 DePauw kept its composure and as a team defended its half in the Warhawks attempt to cut the lead in half.

Facing an onslaught of back to back attacks by Whitewater, Mia Manney had to jump off her line numerous times to slow down strikers, showing poise and confidence throughout the second half.

The Tigers would continue to drive the ball up the field, utilizing its quick footwork and vision DePauw found itself in the Warhawks box once again. This time Allison Harvey slipped the ball between the last defenders and found Wendt for her third goal.

Coincidently this is the first hat trick for the women's team since Steph Martin (now assistant coach Steph Kennedy) did it against Kalamazoo back on September 4, 2015.

With a comfortable lead and about 20 minutes left in the game, the Tigers continued to put pressure on the ball and push play into Whitewaters half. DePauw's control over the pace of the match in the second half resulted in chippier play between both teams.

However, the Tigers had the last say scoring its fourth and final goal by Jenna McCarroll off a rebounded save by the Warhawks.

The DePauw women's soccer team travel to Aurora, Ill. to face the Aurora University Spartans on Sept. 21, at 4:30 p.m. (EDT.)
