Hilton Head Island, S.C. - DePauw began play on Hilton Head Island with a sweep as the Tigers topped St. Thomas (Minn.) by a 5-4 score and then topped Union (N.Y.), 8-1 to improve to 5-6.
Against St. Thomas, the Tigers won two of the three doubles matches as the top tandem of Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder were 8-4 winners over Taylor McLeod and Paige McLeod with the third team of Amanda Showalter and Erin Friedrich also defeating Sarah Benoy and Catherine Lindsay by an 8-4 score.
In singles play, Galle defeated Olivia Paradise at the first spot after Paradise retired. Wilder was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Natasha Hood at fourth singles with Emma Love topping Paige McLeod at fifth singles 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-7).
In the Union match, the Tigers swept doubles play as Galle and Wilder defeated Tal Pezzuco and Paige Webster, 8-2, Love and Colleen Morris beat Megan Brown and Cathy Xing, 8-1, and Showalter and Friedrich topping Alex Greenberg and Samantha Siegel by an 8-0 count.
The Tigers won second through sixth singles as Morris defeated Brown at number two by a 6-0, 6-2 score and Wilder winning over Webster 7-5, 6-2 at the third spot. Showalter defeated Siegel by a 6-3, 6-1 score at fourth singles with Love taking a 6-4, 6-3 win over Greenberg at fifth singles and Ali Bush winninng 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles over Sydney Robison.
DePauw returns to action tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. match against 36th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater.
