Tigers Fall to No. 3 Knights in First Round of NCAA Championship

Grand Rapids, Mich.- The DePauw University fell to the No. 3 Calvin University Knights in three sets ending its fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship.

In set one of the final match of the night, DePauw struck first off a commanding block assist by Liv Hartman and Meaghan Etling. Though the Knights would answer with back-to-back kills to take the lead, the Tigers remained composed and went on a 4-2 run to extend its lead to 5-2.

Unable to rattle the Knights, DePauw would trade points with Calvin throughout the first set, recording five ties following its 4-2 run, eventually losing the first set 18-25.

The Knights swung with force at the beginning of the second set, jumping in front of DePauw, 0-4. Fortunately for the Tigers a kill my Hartman shut down Calvin's run and put DePauw on the board. Despite being down 12-24, the Tigers managed to hold the Knights at 24, to record four points, however, Calvin's ability to recover and attack would be too much for DePauw to handle in the end.

In the third set, DePauw came out with power, resulting in a 3-0 lead. That lead quickly disappeared when the Knights answered with a three-point run of its own. Tied at three apiece a kill by Morgan Stearley would put the Tigers up by one, unfortunately for DePauw that would be the last time it led the match as the Knights took back control of the match just as quickly as it gave it away.

Though its efforts midway through the set got the Tigers within two points Calvin's ability to find holes in the defense was just too much for DePauw to handle.

The Tigers finished the season 18-13 overall and 5-3 in the NCAC while reaching the NCAA Volleyball Championship tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
